Peter M. Haarklou

Having grown up in the foot hills of the Appalachian mountains of New Jersey I have always been drawn to the natural world and how my hands can be a part of it. When I discovered iron I found it was a marriage of art and function, thus my passion was born. Upon arrival in Michigan I met Scott Lankton and have had the privilege to work with him in his shop. Tillers International has also been a great resource for me as an aspiring blacksmith. After painfully setting up a forge in an old chicken coop I knew that something had to change. Due to a bit of luck The Historical Society of Webster Township got word of a young blacksmith in town and offered me the use of their 19th century blacksmith shop. I now sit on the board as a director. Soon I will be exploring the creation of wood working tools such as axes, chisels, and carving knives.
